Sonoran Turquoise is mined in Mexico, near the city of Cananea. It is relatively new on the market. This turquoise is not mined in veins, but as individual nuggets.
Turquoise is a porous stone and will absorb water and oil which can stain the stone. It is safe to clean turquoise jewelry with warm, soapy water but it should never be cleaned with steam, ultrasonic or chemical cleaners. Polish the sterling with a polishing cloth.
